PART ONE: THE DEATH OF SELF

Understanding the Original Sin and the Gospel of ONENESS

Introduction: The Foundation

There is only ONE I AM.

One × One × One = One (the Trinity)

By Grace, we—those who BELIEVE, deny themselves, pick up their cross and follow Jesus into DEATH—are invited to be ONE with the ONE.

One × One × One × One = One

One × One × One × a billion trillion Ones = One

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are ONE in us, and we are ONE in them.

SELF IS THE ORIGINAL SIN

Genesis 3:5 The Birth of SELF

“For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The serpent’s promise: “You will be LIKE God” not ONE WITH God, but SEPARATE from God, autonomous, SELF-governing.

This is the original deception: that SELF can exist independently and beneficially apart from union with God.

Isaiah 14:12-14 Lucifer’s Five “I WILLS”

“How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the nations! But you said in your heart:

’I will ascend to heaven;

I will raise my throne above the stars of God,

And I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north.

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;

I will make myself like the Most High.’”

Five times: “I WILL”

This is SELF-will opposing God’s will. The original rebellion. The creation of the first VICTIM (Lucifer cast down) through the creation of the first SELF (Lucifer’s autonomous ego).

SELF created the first victim, and that victim WAS Lucifer himself. His SELF-exaltation resulted in his own fall. SELF always victimizes itself.

THE NATURE OF SELF DEATH MASQUERADING AS LIFE

Romans 8:6-8

“For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

SELF (the flesh-mind) = DEATH

Hostile toward God
Cannot subject itself to God
Cannot please God
CANNOT it’s impossible

Galatians 2:20 & John 12:24-25

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”

“No longer I” = No longer SELF. The only way to live is for SELF to DIE and Christ to LIVE.

“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.”

The paradox: SELF-preservation is SELF-destruction.

SELF AND THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE

Eating from the Tree of Knowledge = SELF becomes the judge of good and evil

This is SELF-GOVERNANCE the greatest rebellion.

Romans 14:23b: “Whatever is not from faith is sin.”

Faith = Trust in God = Living FROM Him

Not from faith = Trust in SELF = Living FROM SELF = SIN

THE DECEPTION OF SELF-CONTROL

Galatians 5:22-23 mentions “self-control” but the Greek enkrateia means “Spirit-mastery”

It’s not SELF controlling SELF. It’s the SPIRIT controlling you.

Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Proverbs 14:12: “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

SELF-governance SEEMS right but its END is DEATH

HUMAN EMOTIONS ROOTED IN SELF

Philippians 4:6-7: “Be anxious for nothing”

Anxiety = SELF trying to control the future

Matthew 6:33: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

SELF-provision = Worry

Seeking Him FIRST = He adds everything

1 John 4:18: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear”

Fear = SELF protecting SELF

Perfect love = Union with God = No SELF to fear for = No fear

THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF SELF-SATISFACTION

Ecclesiastes 1:8: “The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor is the ear filled with hearing.”

SELF can NEVER be satisfied

John 4:13-14: “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst”

SELF drinking = Thirst returns

Living water FROM Christ = Never thirst

Why? Because SELF is replaced with HIS LIFE springing up FROM WITHIN

SELF AS PARASITE

Romans 8:13: “If you are living according to the flesh, you must die”

James 1:14-15: “When lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.”

The progression:

1. SELF’s lust → 2. Conception → 3. Birth of sin → 4. Death

SELF is a death-cycle that feeds on itself and its host

FEAR OF THE LORD (WHICH IS LIFE)

Proverbs 1:7: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge”

Proverbs 14:27: “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life”

Proverbs 8:13: “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride and arrogance… I hate.”

Fear of LORD = Hating what God hates = Hating SELF (pride, arrogance) = Life

TRUTH DESTROYS SELF AUTOMATICALLY

John 8:31-32: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Truth = Freedom FROM SELF

John 14:6: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life”

SELF cannot exist in His presence.

SELFISH AMBITION THE CORPORATE EXPRESSION OF SELF

Philippians 2:3-8: “Do nothing from selfishness… Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who… emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant… He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death”

Christ’s pattern: Complete self-emptying

James 3:14-16: “Selfish ambition… is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.”

SELF brings total corruption

PART ONE CONCLUSION

The Gospel Is Not SELF Improvement It’s SELF Death

The True Gospel:

DIE with Christ → SELF executed
RISE with Christ → New creation
LIVE in Christ → Seek His life, not SELF-life
ONE with Christ → Complete union
REIGN through grace → His power, not SELF-power
